Periodical and Publication Design
Clear and Visually Dynamic.
Periodical publications (or single-issue specialty publications) ought to be clear and visually dynamic to maintain reader interest throughout multiple editions. In our collaborative process we work with you to develop all aspects of your publication by considering your content and distribution requirements, audience, frequency, and advertiser needs, including specs for media kits. We want to know: Are you distributing as a membership benefit or selling on newsstands? Will your publication be printed and mailed or is it received via email/PDF? Do you need an interactive PDF with live hyperlinks?
Serial publications include periodical magazines and corporate or nonprofit materials such as annual reports, event promotion, fundraising, member outreach, etc.
COLUMBIA COUNTY HISTORY & HERITAGE
Columbia County History & Heritage is an official publication of the Columbia County Historical Society. This award-winning magazine continues to be published once or twice a year, each issue presenting a wide variety of topics illustrating the rich and complex history of Columbia County, New York.
The magazine was founded in 2002 by the late Henry M. “Jim” Eyre, Editor Emeritus, and designer Ron Toelke in lieu of the typical “newsletter” format. What began as a 24-page two-color publication grew to 48 pages, with full-color covers and color inserts. Toelke Associates designed the masthead title and every issue through 2014, over 30 issues in all. Toelke Associates was responsible for page design and layout, handling advertiser materials, as well as serving on the volunteer editorial board through 2014. We worked closely with the editors on copy editing and proofreading. Ron Toelke also contributed several articles over the course of our involvement.
THE WOOL BOOK
Celebrating the World’s Most Versatile Natural Fiber
With an introduction by HRH The Prince of Wales
“The wonderful thing about wool is that it offers so many solutions to our lives today and it grows naturally. When I launched the Campaign for Wool in 2010, I felt that if everybody understood the remarkable capacity of this natural fibre to meet the needs of the modern world that the major reduction of the sheep population across the world could be halted and perhaps, may even help to restore sheep numbers…we can show how it is the best choice for the modern lifestyle we live today, that our families will live tomorrow and importantly, we can take care of our planet at the same time.”
— HRH The Prince of Wales
This project was done in conjunction with the British Wool Marketing Board and HRH Prince Charles’ world-wide Campaign for Wool initiative. Fabulous Floors’ Margo Locust was project coordinator/publisher and the British Wool Marketing Board’s Bridgette Kelly was principal project developer and writer for the 80-page publication. While the background cover graphic was provided by the Campaign, Toelke Associates created the overall thematic design and typography to present the many aspects of wool — carpets, rugs, fashion, furnishings, etc. along with advertiser editorial content and display advertising. The publication was released in conjunction with an event in New York City’s Bryant Park to showcase the versatility of wool products.
